
Jazz bassist Micah Herman was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He and his family then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where his musical journey began at a very young age. Micah remembers going to concerts at Swope Park, and the lawn of the Nelson Atkins Museum all the way back in the 1980''s. It was in Swope Park, when he was about seven years old Micah met Dizzy Gillespie, just after he finished an outdoor concert. It was at this moment that Micah the musician was conceived.
Micah took the long route to the bass, circa the violin, cello, and guitar. Upon reaching high school, he enrolled at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, where he truly began his life as a professional musician. Micah played in several ensembles while at Paseo, including the Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble, Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City, The Olathe Community Orchestra, and the Kansas City Youth Symphony. He has received All State honors for both Jazz Band and Orchestra. He has also received accolades for several solo performances. Micah served as president of the Paseo Academy student chapter of I.A.J.E.. He also was awarded the Student Assistant Conductor position, and conducted both the Orchestra, and Chamber orchestra for their final concert.
